RESPONSE TO NORTHERN AIR CHARTERS SERVICES LIMITED
Following initial meetings and discussions Airports Fiji Limited (AFL) in May 2008 awarded space at its Nausori Airport to Northern Air Charters (NACSL) when NACSL was issued a license in April 2008, by the Air Transport Licensing Board (ATLB).
The delay to confirm a parcel of land identified by NACSL to build its maintenance and office base at the Nausori Airport is on land that is earmarked for future Nausori Airport developments and therefore pending the finalization of AFL’s Nausori Master Plan.
Two comprehensive Master plan studies were undertaken by AFL leading up to this year. Under the current Board leadership, AFL management has taken steps to conduct due diligence on the two existing plans with an effort to finalizing and presenting to Cabinet one Masterplan to be adopted and approved for its future growth to take AFL forward for the next twenty years.
The remaining two sites for Labasa and Levuka Airports have involved ongoing meetings; the last one being with Captain Rajesh Sen. of NACSL on 28 August 2008 which finalised and confirmed space requirements for Labasa airport.
At Levuka, landowner issues have arisen with the intent by NACSL to fly services to Bureta; these are still at negotiating stages between AFL, Government, Landowners and NACSL.
AFL is proud to be able to work with NACSL to facilitate their requirements and introduce a new operator into the domestic market, however as AFL only manages the Airports, the issues on land and space constraints are the challenges that is being dealt with by the Authorities involved.
